Seed Master – Define Seed Products

The Seed Master module is the central catalog where agribusinesses define and standardize every seed product, crop variety, packaging specification, and agronomic seed rate used across operations.

1. Purpose

Why do we use this module?

  • To establish the single source of truth for all seed varieties distributed by your organization.
  • To set baseline agronomic rules (standard seed rates per acre, recommended planting seasons, maturity periods).
  • To define standard packaging sizes (e.g., 20 kg bags, 40 kg sacks) so inventory and quotas calculate automatically.

2. Who Can Access It?

6. Business Rules & Validations

  • Unique Variety Code: No two products can share the same variety code within the same company.
  • Positive Seed Rate: Seed rate must be greater than zero.
  • Mandatory Season: Every seed variety must have at least one designated sowing season.

7. Expected Result

The new seed variety appears in the Seed Master Catalog. It immediately becomes available as an option in Seed Inventory Inwarding and in the Crop Plan dropdown.

8. Common Issues & Solutions

  • "Variety already exists": You cannot create duplicates. Search the catalog table first to see if the variety is currently marked INACTIVE. If inactive, simply click Reactivate.
  • Incorrect seed rate entered: Edit the product before active crop plans are published. Published plans retain their locked historical rate.
